Good reviews start before the stay

By Athina · October 2026

Most poor reviews are about something the guest didn't know. How to prevent them, how to answer them, and what Airbnb doesn't allow.

Most disappointing reviews are not about the home itself. They are about something the guest didn't know: where to park, how the heating works, which day the bins go out. Small things grow into big ones when nobody is there to ask.

Before the stay: answer the questions in advance

A clear guest guide for the home solves most of this. Check-in and check-out, how the lock works, where the fuse box is, the wifi, waste sorting, and a few good places nearby. Every question a guest doesn't have to ask is one less chance of frustration.

After the stay: answer every review

Also the five-star ones. A friendly reply shows the next guest that someone real is behind the listing. With a weaker review, stay calm and brief: thank the guest, say what you are improving, and leave it there. You are not writing for that one guest, but for everyone who reads it afterwards.

Asking for a review, the right way

One friendly message after check-out is enough. According to Airbnb's review policy, reviews may not be given or withheld in exchange for something of value, such as a discount or a refund, and hosts may not pressure guests to influence a review.

Why it matters

Your rating and your reviews are what future guests read first. A steady record of good reviews makes every next booking easier.
